An Afternoon with Mestre Pitts

“Holly, I would really like a dancer’s point of view on these capoeira sequencias I just learned,” My friend and capoeira mestre, Mestre Kenneth Pitts, says to me last week.

“All right, why don’t I come by Friday afternoon and we can work on them then! BUT!,” I gear up for my angle, “you realize I’m going to ask you to put them into a dance with me, right?”

Turns out, he’s down with that.  The video here is the culmination of about an hour and a half of messing around with capoeira moves.  We didn’t get very far, but then, we were also babysitting (as you can see).  I actually really love this video because it reflects Mestre Pitts (always surrounded by children) and my life as well: always dancing while being mindful of children toddling by.
